We have received the following reports about recent burglary attempts in Florence Road:
From a Florence Road house by the cross road with Southdown Avenue. At about 23:50 I heard a noise in our back garden. When I looked out I spotted a young man on the roof of the shed in the garden that backs onto ours. He had a torch and was wearing a hoodie. My partner went out with his torch and the guy disappeared.
He had moved the white plastic chair from in front of our shed to climb and in the process had dislodged part of our fence. Nothing of value in our shed but he was definitely scouting gardens along this area.
There are reports of a man with a hoody up spotted in back gardens at night, again near the cross road with Southdown Avenue.
From a House near the top of Florence Road. We had our bike shed broken into very recently. Fortunately despite wrecking the door (3 locks jemmied off) nothing was taken, as bikes also locked up inside. Maybe it was a reconnaissance, we’ve lost bikes previously. The back garden is still integral so they must have climbed in. Just mentioning so people can be extra vigilant with their things & in case anyone saw/ sees anything suspicious.
The Police have informed residents who reported attempted/thefts that burglars sometimes put white crosses on the pavement outside houses to mark houses being targeted.
[Thank you Georgia Apsion for bringing these reports to our attention]

This area is a drug pick up point. He was probably waiting for his dealer. They tend to arrive at London Road station. That’s what I’ve been told anyway.

I’ve been walking the dog quite late, between 10/11pm and midnight usually, and there was a man in a hoody last week who appeared to be loitering around the crossroad/Southdown Avenue area. I can’t remember which day. I normally zigzag through to Stanford Avenue and back and three times I saw him on Southdown Ave, slowly mooching along in different directions. There are very few people out round here at that time and they usually have a dog, cigarette, are arriving home or are walking somewhere purposefully, this guy put the dog and I on edge enough I walked a different route home.
