How can we organise a ‘Florence Road Library’? Kind neighbours have offered to lend (and deliver) books. Since in-house browsing is out of the question, what is the best way of organising this? Readers posting their interests in particular books (on our new website) or book owners posting a list of some of the books they would be happy to lend?

Classics are also available online for free. I’m currently reading A Journal of the Plague Year by Daniel Defoe (in book form) but it is available at

Project Gutenberg offers 61,604 free ebooks (in numerous languages) to download.

Posting requests for specific books is one way, but it might just be that no-one has that particular book but something similar. So maybe people could give an idea of what they have available eg Children’s, Crime, Classics, Historical novels etc.
Then the borrower would request the books and the lender would arrange a time when they would put them on their doorstep for the borrower to collect.

I think neighbours posting the books they would like to borrow would be easier. Listing all one’s own ‘library’ could be a more daunting task! Also, I think it would be interesting to see what people would like to read – helping one get a feel for the current zeitgeist!
